Increase firefox tab close timeout aka dom.beforeunload_timeout_ms

When closing a tab in Firefox, the page might present you with a dialog that looks similar to this:

Normally this alert dialog remains visible until you press the Leave Page button.

However, I noticed yesterday that this dialog was disappearing after a short period of time, and with it also went the tab. Thankfully one can press Ctrl + Shift + T to restore a closed tab.

Fixing this issue

Open about:config in firefox and search for dom.beforeunload_timeout_ms, and change this value to something longer like 10 or 15 seconds. Remember the value is in milliseconds, so multiply your chosen number of seconds by 1000.

Restart Firefox, and profit!
